what to wear - tis season

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "would you know my name":
Do you know any great websites (like zappos) where I can find affordable, great quality shoes, clothes, and accessories?
Also- how do you recommend piecing items together in a stylish yet comfortable way for the winter (and for a ski trip?)

hi there~ I will attempt my best to answer in 3 parts

1. I enjoy buying affordable clothes in person, especially when it comes to trying it on.
but I have visited shopbop.com & asos.com a couple times
and found that they carry a good selection.
I will leave this open to suggestions from readers,
as they were very helpful with the "seeking make up artist" post~

2. I've been meaning to take a look at the new prefall collections anyway.
here are some inspirations and notes for a stylish yet comfortable winter:
throw on mix matched sleeves + textured coats

the right gloves give any existing work outfit a style boost

hmm? oh, you think my sweater is "cute"?
style is all in the attitude girl~

cat eye shades and oversized sweater

unexpected leather instantly updates the sweater you still have from high school

a cozy parka with bold "I'm here!" colors

3. ..... are there boys on this "ski trip"?? ;)
I personally love ski trips, because it's when I go for the love of winter sports,
and my chance to totally forget about fashion, and pack all the sweats I own.
sweats and a sense of humor can be sexy too.
everyone loves a down to earth girl - I wouldn't stress~~
my advice would be to hit the showers as fast as you can because stinky is not cute.

but here are some cute ideas suggested by netaporter.com anyway~ :)
be careful on the slopes! hope you have a blast~

theater district

sue said...
do you any restaurant recommendations? i'm going to see a play @ gershwin theater over thanksgiving vacation & am trying to decide on a place to go for dinner preferably nearby...maybe Italian or something? Looking for a cute romantic place to go w/ the bf! And if you have time, do you have any ideas for a cute outfit to catch a broadway play/dinner when its chilly out?

hey! that's right in my neighborhood~
I went to pasta lovers today actually - it was good,
but it is hard to find a "cute" restaurant in the theater district..
there is also maria pia for italian, which I haven't tried yet.

here are more some places you can look into;
I just used google maps to see what's around - (these are spots I've tried):
danji - "cute" and very delicious tapas style korean food
sugiyama - nice "date"
del friscos - really yummy steak.. we wanted to go here instead today actually
pure thai - really good thai, very casual.
yakitori totto - there is usually a long long wait, but worth the wait!

I'd honestly just wear what I was wearing shopping in during the day,
to the play at night.
you won't be out of place in a really nice dress, or even t-shirt/jeans~
so I'd go with something clean and in between.

I hope you have a lovely time!!!

some answers

hi trish!!! i was shopping the other day and thought of a question to ask u.. if you were to buy a classic ralph lauren sweater, would you go with a tight one or a baggy/loose sweater? and how would you style it??? i'm so stuck here..:( i need your help!!! and one more question! i love marni/lanvin necklaces. and i think they are really good investment! but they are quite pricey$$$$. do you know of any other stores/brands that has similar neckalces with a cheaper price point???

hey there~ thanks for asking. hmm, I tend to buy my sweaters a little loose.
especially when it comes to sweaters, I like to feel cozy and comfortable.
but I looked up how ralph styled it, and I like their "classicly smart" image.
I like the clean up do, the belt, and a little bit of heel goes a long way.
I also agree that it looks better without a necklace and opting for a cuff instead.

as for the lanvin and marni necklaces options, here's our original inspiration:

I found that anthropologie has some great affordable alternatives:

you can get "the look", by mixing and matching - also with pieces you probably already have

good luck and happy shopping!

what to wear - accessorize LBD

Maryann has left a new comment on your post "cat in a hat":

Hey Trish,
Question!!! Advice!!
I don't have the time to shop for a dress to wear at a wedding this coming Saturday.
What I have in my wardrobe right now is a plain black strapless dress knee length.
How can I accessorize to jazz things up. Hope you can help!

hi maryann - the little black dress!!
I have a plan B black dress that I've worn 50 times, with different accessories.
there are so many ways to wear it, let's see how some celebs/runways have worked it.
I've also selected aldo shoes, and j.crew jewelry, as examples - for their easy access.

sexy nude shoes, and a simple bracelet - she is really letting her face and body shine.
nude shoes really extend your legs - especially if your dress is knee length.
for this look, I'd jazz up the nude pump, assuming your dress is not sequin like angelina's.
(I think I want to get that last aldo shoe! miu miu-esque)

classic black on black - but what I like about their black shoes,
is that they are breaking up the solid blacks

the up do - shoulders are sexy~~
do all your drama in the hair with nude lips

j.crew's sexy and nude color necklaces

if you are busty like kim, you can ditch the necklace and go bold with earrings.
or I'm sure any belt in your closet will be a fun accent, like khloe's.
a clutch is ideal for weddings and parties.

or try wearing a bright color on your lips with soft hair and bling on your wrists

and be inspired to try something out of the ordinary~~ :)
hope you have a fun time at the wedding~ thanks for asking!
